The first flight tests of an airborne refractometer to measure humidity changes were made last summer as one of the scientific projects of the Barbados Oceanographic and Meteorological Experiment. The instrument has a small barrel‐shaped device mounted atop a twin‐engine aircraft. This sampling cavity and its associated electronics measure refractive index at microwave frequencies with great accuracy.
