| dc.description | The Department of the Interior has announced the establishment of a new office to administer Bureau of Mines research grants to universities and colleges. The creation of the new office is intended to help the nation's system for educating engineers and scientists in mineral resource disciplines. Alvin Van Valkenburg, on loan to the Bureau from the National Science Foundation, is setting up the new Office of University Relations. Van Valkenburg, Acting Chief of the new Office, was a program director with NSF's Earth Sciences Division, where he administered a major university research grant program. |
