Geomagnetic micropulsations in the period range 5 to 200 seconds have been recorded near Wellington, New Zealand. The activity occurring during July 1964 was analyzed for variations as functions of time in period and polarization. For the horizontal field of the daytime Pc 3 activity it was found that (a) the period had a diurnal variation with a minimum generally around local noon, (b) the field had a mainly anticlockwise sense of rotation or was linearly polarized, (c) the oscillating vector's direction changed in a characteristic pattern throughout the day, the most rapid variations occurring near sunrise and sunset. The results cannot be explained adequately in terms of existing theories of micropulsations. A method for drawing equivalent overhead current patterns from single‐station observations is proposed.
