This study provides a first attempt at using a phase sensitive detection algorithm to detect short‐lived events, such as glacial meltwater events, in stable oxygen isotope records. Pertinent parameters such as the decay time and oscillation frequency of such rapid events are determined. A comparative study has been made from δ<sup>13</sup>C data and δ<sup>18</sup>O data using the phase sensitive detection technique. Common events are identified in the two types of records, with a decay time of 7±5 kyr and with an angular oscillation frequency ω<sub>r</sub>=1.5±0.2 (ky)<sup>−1</sup> (correspondingly, a cycle frequency f<sub>r</sub> = ω<sub>r</sub>/2π ≈ 0.4±0.03 ky<sup>−1</sup>, or a cycle time T=1/f = 2.5 kyr), likely corresponding to rapid glacial meltwater effects. |
