A heat balance between the time change in heat storage and net vertical heat transfer within a water column by vertical dispersion is assumed. The average surface temperature and its amplitude is related to surface heat exchange using the concept of equilibrium temperature. This results in a set of relationships that can be used to estimate the seasonal time varying vertical temperature structure of a water body from meteorological data. |
