dc.description The grid square technique has been used extensively in Canada for assessing water resource potential as well as for planning hydrometric networks. The method can conveniently be extended to generate synthetic streamflow traces on ungaged streams. The grid square technique and its extension to operational hydrology are discussed, along with an example from the New Brunswick region of Canada.
