Whereas in the Moran model, the matrix of the transition probabilities specifies transitions that are safe and those during which a failure occurs, the transition matrix in the Gould model does not provide such information. To make the Gould model applicable to problems concerning reservoir behavior in two or more successive years, the governing equation of the Gould model is decomposed into two parts, one involving only the safe transitions, the other involving only the failure transitions. |
