AbstractDairy factories and dairy product storage areas in New Zealand were surveyed for insects and mites during April—June 1975. Bagged milk powder produced by the spray process was the most abundant product at the stores visited. Thirteen species of insect and six species of mite from factories and stores are listed (including some records made subsequently by Auckland Plant Health Diagnostic Station). The overall standard of storage hygiene was satisfactory. Checking needs to be frequent in older stores, or where milk products and other non-dairy infestable products are held in the same warehouse.
