The holographic projection of speckle patterns is demonstrated to be useful for remote measurements of the displacements of rigid objects. The hologram of a fine diffuser acts as the element that projects the pattern under laser light illumination just on to the area of detection. As a consequence, there is no loss of luminous energy associated with the dimensions of the projecting element, as is the case when the speckle pattern is obtained directly from a plane diffuser. The different focal properties of the hologram due to nonlinearities of the emulsion response permit its use in transmission or reflection as a multiple element. |
