AbstractThe pattern of recurrences after surgical treatment of 276 patients with stage T<sub>3</sub> and T<sub>4</sub> laryngeal carcinoma was reviewed. Nodal recurrence was the commonest site and occurred mainly in patients with supraglottic and transglottic carcinoma. Distant metastasis was the second commonest site of recurrence, and the most distant metastases developed without locoregional recurrence. Local recurrence alone was uncommon in patients treated with primary surgery.
