Two experiments examined the effects of recipient race, attitude similarity, and attitudes toward interracial marriage on physical pleasure. Using the Brock Pleasuring Machine, White male subjects administered graded waves of pleasurable vibrations to a Black or White female recipient who appeared to have similar or dissimilar attitudes to the subject. Subjects tended to administer more intense pleasure to similar White recipients than to similar Black recipients, but there was no difference in the intensity of pleasure administered to dissimilar White and dissimilar Black recipients. There was no consistent evidence that attitudes toward interracial marriage affected pleasuring. These results are in contrast to the liking data on which we replicated the "attitude similarity-liking" effect.
