AbstractMeasurements of leaf water potential taken in the Snake Range of Nevada indicate that bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva Bailey) may be adapted to maintain lower internal water stress than some of its competitors. This characteristic may account in part for the tree's dominance on harsh timberline sites.
