ABSTRACTOn the basis of the theory of sectorial areas a finite element model for the limit analysis of thin-walled beams of open cross section is developed. Assuming piecewise linearized yield conditions, an approximate value of the plastic collapse load multiplier can be obtained by means of linear programming algorithms.
