| dc.description | AbstractA preference chamber especially adapted for use with small free-living aquatic animals is described. In a small open plexiglass chamber with water inlets in the ends and a common outlet in the middle the experimental animals are offered alternative test solutions. The test solutions are kept at a constant water level 2–3 mm above the bottom, and a sharp and well defined gradient is established in the middle of the chamber. During experiments it is possible to observe very small animals with a stereo-microscope.Temperature, salinity and oxygen preference tests have been carried out. Small rockpool crustaceans were offered different test solutions and they have so far always very clearly shown preference for one of the alternatives. |
