The mutual coupling between the three electrodes, source, drain and gate, of a microwave FET, is treated by the three-coupled-line theory. Even for relatively short transverse electrode lengths this coupling produces a negative feedback which causes a significant gain reduction. For longer electrode length, around half the line wavelength, the coupling may change into positive feedback, which yields gain enhancement or even oscillations. |
