AbstractThe expansion of the survey field has been much in the thoughts of Surveyors for many years and I understand that our Institution is now considering definite proposals for dealing with this expansion. It would be unreasonable to expect that anything which I may have to say on this subject may be in any way unfamiliar to Members who have studied this question over many years. I have been abroad since 1028 and have taken much interest in recent survey developments in other parts of the British Commonwealth. Since my return to Australia I have been employed by the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority, which has provided contact with some aspects of the desired expansion. These “Impressions and Suggestions” must thus be without the authority of full and detailed knowledge of the questions involved, though they may have some interest as the opinions of one who has been strongly impressed by the changes found to be in progress on his return to this country. It is my main aim, however, to give what encouragement I may to the Members of this Institute, to continue with their efforts to advance and control the profession of surveying. |
