AbstractFishery biologists do not have a workable system for classifying the fishery habitat. As a result, our work in land use planning and management has been difficult. This article describes why a classification is needed, what the classification should be composed of, and what it will accomplish. The author requests that the American Fishery Society be the guiding organization in the development of fishery habitat classification.
