AbstractThe funding constraints on large colleges and universities are becoming tighter as time passes. Because of this increasing problem, better management of our large and complex educational institutions is becoming an evermore important task. A necessary input for good management in such institutions is the demand by the students on various teaching units which compose the institution. This paper addresses itself to this aspect of the management problem and deals specifically with student instructional demand on the system. A student-credit flow model was constructed to provide this demand information. For expository purposes a hypothetical model was constructed and used to demonstrate the various kinds of information available from the model that can be used to make management decisions. This student-credit flow model is a version of Leontiefs Input-Output Model. Student-credits are the specific flow units in the model. The model also has a number of special characteristics peculiar to it. These characteristics are discussed in some detail.
