Based on the College Bowl format, the Geriatric Challenge Bowl was implemented to stimulate interest in and knowledge of geriatrics among medical house staff. Two evaluation forms were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. In results from Evaluation Form I, the majority of the house staff audience reported that the program stimulated general interest in geriatrics and introduced new knowledge regarding geriatrics and the psychosocial positive impact was experienced by those who prepared the most. The evaluation results suggest that the Geriatric Challenge bowl was an innovative educational strategy which can be used to complement and enhance traditional teaching approaches.
