To respond to the changing needs of the contemporary family providing care to frail elderly relatives, students in the helping professions must learn gender-sensitive practice approaches to service delivery. The results of a national study of men engaged in elder caregiving are summarized. Findings contribute to the explication of a specialized classroom and field isntruction learning model taht addresses the complex needs of the emergent elder caregiving system. Bronfenbrenner's (1977) framework for conceptualizing the levels of ecological systems offers a useful strategy for organizing the curriculum model. |
