The objectives of this study were to determine: (1) whether or not a relationship exists between attorneys' political ideological belief systems and attitudes toward the 1987 Ohio Child Support Guidelines, and (2) whether or not attitudes toward guidelines and child support award decisions are consistent. A bivariate analysis (Pearson r's) found liberals to hold favorable attitudes toward the guidelines while conservatives hold unfavorable attitudes. A step-wise multiple regression analysis found conservatives to hold consistent attitudes toward guidelines and child support award decisions. It was concluded that the extent to which the objectives of the guidelines are adhered to is dependent in part upon the attorneys' political ideological belief systems.
