dc.description The objectives of the research reported in this article are to determine (1) the extent to which sustainable production practices have been adopted by English cabbage producers in Malaysia, (2) whether cabbage yields and sustainable farming practices are inversely related, and (3) factors conducive to farmers adopting sustainable practices. Sustainable practices examined involve pest (insect, disease, weed) control, fertilization, and soil erosion control. Results indicate that fanners who adopt more sustainable practices do not suffer yield sacrifices. A strategy to help farmers understand reasons for possibly using less agricultural chemical and inorganic fertilizers is shown to be the single most effective approach for promoting the more widespread adoption of sustainable practices in the study area.
