A logit model is estimated using data from a 1989 USDA survey of cotton farmers in the 14 major cotton producing States. A primary objective of this analysis is to identify factors impacting the probability of producer participation in a professional (IPM). Results suggest the probability of participation is influenced by yield, pesticide use, and nonchemical control. Further, the probability of participation also is influenced by the producer's age, education, tenure, and enrollment in federal crop insurance. Producers in the Southern Plains have a greater propensity to participate in a professional scouting program than producers in the Southeast, Delta, and West regions.
