The mental health practice area in occupational therapy has contracted during the 1980s. The practice area has been strongly affected by changing social values, reimbursement requirements and demographic trends. This paper offers a perspective on the realities, challenges and benefits of a career in mental health occupational therapy. The paper may be used by educators and supervisors in discussing the psychosocial dysfunction practice area with students. |
