Preparation for war may affect health as much as war itself. In many parts of the world the oppressive and health‐compromising effects of the global nuclear strategies of great powers are obscured by their close involvement with local economic or political issues, but in the tiny island nations of the Pacific the ‘fatal impact’ of those strategies is clearly evident.
