SummaryThe Schools Curriculum Project was set up in the Institute of Education, Queen's University, in July 1973. Its terms of reference were to investigate how schools might contribute towards improved community relations in Northern Ireland. Seventeen schools are participating in the project, and are representative of all types of post‐primary schools ‐‐ rural and urban, grammar and secondary, intermediate, Catholic and Protestant, coeducational and single sex. The following article sets out the rationale of the project and its mode of operation in the schools, and is the first account of the project to be published outside Northern Ireland. A large quantity of classroom materials and evaluative documents have also been produced, and the project will publish fuller accounts of its work in the coming year. |
