This paper examines rhetorical similarities in the writings of I. A. Richards and Kenneth Burke, particularly the role of dialectic as a method for understanding how language works and for making it work for a better life. And while Richards’ and Burke's dialectic modes are affirmed, warnings are raised about the enthusiasm of their claims and their evangelistic impulse to save the world. |
