| dc.description | AbstractAlthough zoning enforcement is usually considered to be an issue of greatest concern to building inspectors and zoning administrators, planners also should be concerned about this important aspect of land use control. A poorly administered ordinance can undercut a lot of local planning efforts, as well as create legal exposure for the community. Moreover, an arbitrarily or sporadically enforced ordinance can actually encourage a cynical disregard for the law among those individuals requiring local development approval. Close cooperation between planners, code administrators, and other local officials is needed to ensure that planning policies and objectives are actually carried out in a community. |
