| dc.description | AbstractThis study presents information on the existing level of competence of institutions and scientists working on fishery research in 31 developing countries. For comparative purposes, the importance of fisheries and fishery science in these countries was measured in terms of derived indices such as the value of total catch as a proportion of gross domestic product (GDP), the number of fishery scientists per unit weight or value of catch, and so on. It appears that the‐number of fishery scientists working in any country rises with increases in population, GDP, and catch (in weight and value). |
