dc.description Cooperative learning is frequently cited as an instructional strategy that helps students with disabilities succeed academically and socially in the mainstream classroom. Careful planning and systematic instruction based on individual needs must accompany each element of cooperative learning. I describe specific strategies for promoting positive interdependence, individual accountability, and social skills instruction, with a focus on reading and writing instruction.
