This comparative study of OPAC use investigates whether there are fewer zero or no direct hits due to users' miscon- ce tions today than a decade ago. For this purpose, data from PEG- AJUS, Columbia University Law Library's INNOPAC-based OPAC, on failed author searches is compared with that from Arlene G. Taylor's study of LUIS, Northwestern University's NOTIS-based OPAC, from 1984. No direct hits resulting from a misconception of the system are found to constitute only half of h e no direct hits compared with the corresponding category of the earlier study. The results of a t-test give sufficient proof to conclude that this difference is statistically valid. |
