In the light of recent discussion, the economic impact upon libraries of dual pricing of serials is examined. The conclusion is that dual pricing, and even the phenomenon of more rapid price increases for library subscriptions than for individual subscriptions may well be advantageous to libraries. By decrying dual pricing, librarians may be inviting a system of unitary pricing that would result in increased subscription prices to libraries.
