A field teaching project in Single-Subject Design was undertaken with graduate social work students in a public social service agency to learn more about the utility and "goodness-of-fit" of the research model in this setting. Students were taught SSD and assisted with implementation in their cases. These students, and a comparable comparison group, were pre- and posttested on their learning. The students also evaluated their experience with SSD in a tape-recorded session at the end of the project. A content analysis of the transcript provided data on student perceptions of the benefits and difficulties of SSD. Results of the testing and the content analysis are presented and discussed. Suggestions for modifications in teaching and using SSD in the public welfare setting are offered. |
