The purpose of this study was to uncover patients more at risk of becoming ALC. ALC patients are most likely to enter the hospital through the Emergency Department and are most likely to be female without a spouse. Males who are younger and alone also have a greater chance of becoming ALC. This highlights the importance of identifying patients early in the treatment process who are at risk of becoming ALC. By doing so length of stay in the hospital can be reduced.
