One of the earliest forms of graphic communication, the map is still without peer for the interpretive illustration of the spatial environment. This paper provides an overview of primarily nongovernment maps and atalses of interests to the scientific community found in the Map Division, The Research Lirbaries, New York Public Library, or cited in recent map librarianship journals. Topics covered include geology, satellite imagery, nuclear energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, wind, seismicity, oil and gas resources, oceanography. In addition, international and U.S. sources for maps and atlases are cited and evaluated. The article closes with a brief look at the Map Division, N.Y.P.L. |
