End-user searching is extremely popular in the health care community because of urgent need for access to the lastest biomedical information and the ability of a single database, MEDLINE, to provide much of this information. Medical libraries have taken a proactive role in training health care professionals to search MEDLINE in its various guises. The complexity of the database and the number of different access systems have led to a variety of classes and a strong commitment on the part of medical libraries to act as educational and consultative agents in the area of biomedical end-user searching.
