Over the past decade, public services and technical services librarians have been working closely on improving user access to information, most notably in the development of online public access catalogs. These cooperative activities are extending beyond the online catalog into the automation of infomation and referral systems. It is in these areas, which were traditionally the domain of reference librarians, that the cataloger's skills are now being applied.
