AbstractThe nature and extent of substance abuse problems among 260 youth consecutively admitted to an adolescent psychiatric unit are explored through use of self‐report data and standardized instruments. The results indicated that a substantial percentage of adolescents hospitalized with a primary psychiatric diagnosis also had co‐existing substance abuse problems. A program specifically designed to address such problems is elaborated.
