AbstractEvidence is presented suggesting that the mechanism for reaction of trimethylphosphine with dioxygen proceeds through Me<sub>3</sub>PO<sub>2</sub> as an intermediate. A mechanistic scheme is proposed to explain the products observed and the spectroscopic data obtained.
