AbstractA transition of C<sub>60</sub> fullerene to diamond without through graphite was successfully quenched from shock compressions of 16, 25 and 54 GPa by a rapid cooling technique. Microtextures of the transformed diamond and C60 suggested a reconstructive transition mechanism.
