My critic is too modest in claiming that he is expressing ‘some small qualifications’ these ‘qualifications’ are not so small, they raise epistemological questions of some importance. Although Benton appears contented with my piece at the epistemological level he should not be, for his reply reveals how much he disagrees with the general epistemological position underlying the article. I will discuss these ‘qualifications’ in the order in which they occur.
