ABSTRACTThe European Community Single Market provides an export opportunity that every professional service provider should consider. As of January 1, 1993, when the EC's single market took effect, the EC's legislative program is mostly adopted, yet not totally implemented. U.S. professionals' ability to compete in the EC is governed by the provisions of a general directive on mutual recognition of professional qualifications. This article reviews the approaches used for professional qualifications by the EC. In particular, it provides information about the First General Directive on the Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications (89/48/EEC). From this, implications for U.S. professionals and U.S. concerns about the Directive are described. |
