This article presents a rationale for adopting a client-centred approach to teacher-development programmes. The approach is illustrated with a workshop designed to introduce participants to principles for selecting and grading learning tasks. It is suggested that the principles behind the procedure can be utilized for introducing most topics and issues, and that they provide a useful means of bridging the gap between theory and practice.
