In most MSS of Johnʼs Gospel, only the Hellenistic name of ‘Ιϵροσολυμα is used. However, there are two variant readings of ’Ιϵρουσαλημ in Codex Bezae as well as an additional reference to Jerusalem with the Hellenistic spelling. The article examines the theological significance of the pattern of usage in Codex Bezae which, it is argued, represents an earlier stage of the Gospel than that transmitted by the Alexandrian text. |
