SummaryAn inter‐agency response to excluded pupils is described.In essence it is the setting‐up of an off‐site unit but one which, the author believes, tries to incorporate and develop principles of good practice particularly in the establishment of close relationships with school and parents.Problems of an inter‐agency team, the nature of the group‐work model chosen and issues of assessment and evaluation are addressed.The need to set such a response within a broader, systemic context is stressed and the demands that this, in turn, makes on psychological teams and local authority policies are discussed.
