A theoretical and experimental base for a short term memory deficit in young learning disabled children

ABSTRACTA short term memory deficit may be a precursor of learning disabilities in early childhood. A more precise understanding of possible causes of this deficit as well as implications for remediation can be obtained from a theoretical framework with supported experimental studies. Relevant aspects of the theories of J. Piaget, R. Case and J. Torgesen, as components of this theoretical framework, will be delineated followed by descriptions of supportive research. Applications for remediation and intervention are suggested.
